Privacy Policy

MyPolity is a civic tool, and civic tools have to be trustworthy. This page explains plainly what information we collect, how we use it, and what we will never do with it.
What we collect
If you use the site without an account, we collect nothing tied to you personally. The address lookup on the homepage is not stored.
If you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name you choose, and the home address you provide for your civic profile. Your address is used to look up your representatives, auto-populate location-aware pages, and (in future phases) populate aggregate, anonymized data in the government portal. It is stored in our database and is not shared with third parties in identifiable form.
What we do not do
- —We do not sell your data. Ever.
- —We do not share your personal information with advertisers.
- —We do not share your address, email, or name with government officials or agencies — the government portal shows only anonymized aggregate data (e.g., how many constituents in a district have listed housing as a top issue).
- —We do not run targeted advertising.
Third-party services
MyPolity uses a small set of external services to operate:
- —Supabase — authentication and database hosting. Your account credentials and civic profile are stored in a Supabase-managed Postgres database. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified.
- —Vercel — web hosting and anonymous traffic analytics. Vercel Analytics collects aggregate, non-identifiable data (page views, browser type, country). No cookies are set for analytics purposes.
- —Congress.gov, OpenStates, FEC, and Wikipedia APIs — used to fetch public government data. No information about you is sent to these services.
Cookies
We set one category of cookies: authentication session cookies placed by Supabase when you sign in. These are strictly necessary to keep you logged in and expire when your session ends or you sign out. We do not set tracking or advertising cookies.
Data retention
Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings, which removes your email, display name, and address from our database. Anonymous usage data retained by Vercel is subject to their retention policies.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time through your profile page. If you have a request we cannot fulfill through the product, contact us at privacy@mypolity.org.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we will update this page and, if you have an account, notify you by email before the changes take effect.
