New York holds an closed primary — only voters registered with a party may vote in that party's primary.
Candidates
Governor
Democratic · Incumbent since 2021
Kathy Hochul has served as Governor of New York since August 2021, when she assumed office after Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned. She was elected to a full term in November 2022. Before becoming governor, she served as New York's Lieutenant Governor and previously as a U.S. House member representing western New York.
Republican
Bruce Blakeman has served as Nassau County Executive since January 2022 after defeating the Democratic incumbent in a race widely seen as a bellwether for New York suburban politics. An attorney and former Nassau County Legislator, he has made public safety, tax relief, and opposing what he calls the overreach of Albany Democrats central to his tenure. He received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump and is the 2026 Republican nominee for governor, challenging incumbent Kathy Hochul.
