Cindy Hyde-Smith has represented Mississippi in the U.S. Senate since 2018, when she was appointed by Governor Phil Bryant following Thad Cochran's retirement. She won a special election later that year and was re-elected in 2020. She previously served twelve years as Mississippi's Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, making her the first woman elected to statewide executive office in Mississippi.
