What’s being decided
The general election determines who holds each office. All registered voters may participate. Winning candidates take office in January 2027.
Candidates
U.S. Senate
Democratic · Incumbent since 2017
Chris Van Hollen has represented Maryland in the U.S. Senate since 2017. He previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives for eight terms, including as ranking member of the House Budget Committee. He sits on the Senate Appropriations and Banking committees and has been a consistent voice for progressive economic and social policy.
Governor
Democratic · Incumbent since 2023
Wes Moore has served as Governor of Maryland since January 2023, becoming the state's first Black governor. An Army combat veteran who served in Afghanistan, he is also a Rhodes Scholar and bestselling author. Before entering politics, he led the Robin Hood Foundation, a major anti-poverty organization in New York City. He won the 2022 election by a wide margin.
Republican
Dan Cox was the 2022 Republican nominee for Maryland governor, losing to Wes Moore by a wide margin. He previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2019 to 2023. An attorney from Frederick County, he positioned himself as a Trump-aligned conservative during the 2022 cycle, winning the Republican primary with Trump's endorsement over a more establishment candidate. He is again seeking the Republican nomination for governor in 2026, running against the incumbent Moore in what remains a heavily Democratic state.
