Republican · Incumbent since 2015
Joni Ernst has represented Iowa in the U.S. Senate since 2015. She is a combat veteran who served in the Iowa Army National Guard and a former farmer, and she chairs the Senate Republican Policy Committee.
Republican · Incumbent since 1981
Chuck Grassley has represented Iowa in the U.S. Senate since 1981, making him the longest-currently-serving senator. He will be 93 years old on election day 2026. His longevity has prompted public discussion about age and fitness for office, and he has not yet confirmed whether he will seek an eighth full term. He previously served in the U.S. House and Iowa state legislature. As President Pro Tempore of the Senate and senior member of the Judiciary Committee, he remains a significant figure in the institution.
Governor
Republican
Randy Feenstra has represented Iowa's 4th Congressional District since 2021, after defeating longtime incumbent Steve King in the 2020 Republican primary. Before Congress he served in the Iowa State Senate. A native of Hull in northwest Iowa, his background is in financial services. He is the leading Republican candidate for governor in 2026 as Governor Kim Reynolds is term-limited, running in a state that has moved strongly Republican in recent election cycles.
Democratic
Rob Sand has served as Iowa State Auditor since 2019, becoming the only Democrat to win statewide office in Iowa in that election cycle and demonstrating an ability to win in a state that has moved heavily Republican. A former federal and state prosecutor, he has built a reputation as a government accountability official focused on fighting fraud and waste. He is the Democratic candidate for governor in 2026 as Governor Kim Reynolds is term-limited.
